A Day for Inclusion in Science, is an outreach event aimed at Grade 10 students from area high-schools. Grade 10 is a pivotal year for students in Ontario as this is the last year where science is a requirement. The goal of Elevate is to encourage young students to be confident in themselves and foster a love of science by providing a non-intimidating, inclusive event filled with fun science related activities, and scientist role models.

Every year, Promoting Inclusion in Physics and Astronomy (PIPA) hopes to provide meaningful keynote lectures, hands-on science activities, workshops on barriers in science, ‘Ask an Undergrad’ panels, and an opportunity to meet with scientists from a wide variety of scientific fields. This full-day outreach event is open to all students in Grade 10 from local high schools. We want to especially encourage students who identify with traditionally equity seeking groups in STEM (e.g. BIPOC, 2SLGBTQI+, those with disabilities, women) to register. There is no cost to participate.

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis with a cap of 100 participants. We send registration information to our email list, which contains teachers and contacts from nearby secondary schools. If you would like to be on this list, please e-mail us and request to be added. Once registration has closed, we contact all registrants to confirm their participation, and provide further specific details about the event.
