The UvA Faculty of Science Quotes Page

During the course of my studies at the University of Amsterdam, I encountered a number of interesting and humorous quotes from instructors and faculty staff. We discussed that we really should put those on the web somewhere but no one seemed inclined to actually sit down and do it, I figured I would. I'm leaving them here because it would be such a shame to throw them away again.

Since most lectures are in Dutch and some of the quotes are rather hard to translate, I'm leaving them in Dutch.

Note that while some of these are humerous and intended as such, others are perfectly serious.

``Het leven wordt een stuk eenvoudiger als je het juiste referenitie stelsel kiest.''

``Heb ik Einstein al geciteerd vandaag?''

``Je kunt dit zien als een effectieve repulsieve attractie.''

``Sommige mensen hebben van dat soort berekeningen uitgevoerd en dat blijf je altijd aan ze zien.''

``Een vrij deeltje beweegt naar rechts.''

``Dit is echt heel erg makkelijk. Het is alleen vreselijk saai.''

``Ik zie het even niet. Maar het is echt triviaal.''

``Ik zal nu een plaatje tekenen zodat de meetkunde wat obscuurder wordt.''

``...dus om een kort verhaal lang te maken...''

``Nee, een Tensor is een mathematisch object. Dat klinkt beter.''

``Rekenen kun je een aap ook leren.''

``Het kwadrateren van een delta functie is wiskundig zeer tricky. Natuurkundig doe je dat als volgt...''
