Senior Research Project
PHYSICS 4Q03 and PHYSICS 4P06
Course coordinator:
Course objectives:
1) To experience participating in an active research
environment
2) To contribute to a meaningful research project
3) To learn the basic process of doing scientific research
The project course has been reorganised to provide a more structured format. The new format will encourage more interaction between the students taking the same course (through several meetings, discussions, and presentations). We will ensure that the project that you will work will not be a 'make-work project' - the project will be of current interest to the research group and will give the student the experience to be involved with research first hand. The course is set up so that if you take the full year version of the course (4P06), then you will get experience with all three aspects of presenting research: poster presentation, seminar, and the writing of a report. In the one semester version of the course (4Q03) you will do either a poster presentation or a seminar (depending on the semester) and a final report. It is the expectation that the course will provide the students with an experience that is as close as possible to that of being a graduate student.
