 About Us

The Photonics Research Laboratories at McMaster University operate under the auspices of the Brockhouse Institute for Materials Research (BIMR) and in close connection with the Center for Emerging Device technologies (CEDT). The goal of the Photonics Laboratories is to create new links and promote interdisciplinary research in the areas of photonics and optoelectronics.

 Laser Facility Overview

The Photonics Research Laboratory at McMaster University is a laser facility which is aimed at providing an interdisciplinary environment for physics, chemistry, materials science, electrical and mechanical engineering.

Currently PRL houses the following ultrafast laser systems:

 Amplified ~120 fs laser system
 Amplified sub-50 fs laser system

A number of other lasers and substantial ancillary equipment is also available.

The Photonics Research Laboratories have in recent years been generously supported by the following :

Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada - NSERC
Network of Centres of Excellence - NCE (CIPI)
